Leader's Guide Overview: Responsibilities of a Leader

The leader for this Bible study does not have to be the "expert." The leader's main responsibility is to keep the session moving along and to have some options when something doesn't work as planned. Three things are important in a leader:

  1. Come to the Bible study prepared. If you look over the leader's guide for that session in advance, you will materials will need to be on hand for that session. It is important that the leader has read the lesson carefully and checked out whatever answers are available on the website that accompanies this Bible study. It would also be helpful to have looked over the supplemental material for that lesson on the website.

  2. Have a watch and keep the time. Nothing kills a group meeting faster than a sense that discussions could go on endlessly. As time keeper, the leader keeps the session moving from one element to the other. It is absolutely essential that you are comfortable with stopping a discussion and moving on to the next element.

  3. Be flexible enough to rearrange the structure if it isn't working. Or use the Bible Sleuth exercise with a group that has finished its discussion early or simply can't get one started. Feel free to develop additional questions on your own, from your own study of the lesson, to use with groups if they become stuck.
